For my last day in Seattle I decide to go to one of my favorite place.
Bellevue Square: a mall where fashion is very important.
As a child I remember all of the well dressed men and women and expensive purses and shoes. I remember the tiny dogs popping their heads from their carriers. I remember my mother joking about the fact that ladies would even get their hair done before going to Bellevue Square. It's not that Bellevue is anything but a mall, but it is a mall that houses so many high end brands. You'll find Louis Vuitton, Prada, Tiffany's, Coach, Kate Spade, Burberry and so much more.As I walk around the mall I see the new generations of men and women still dressed up like their parents used to. I still see small dogs popping their heads from the bags. Bellevue is still the same.
I walk through all the fancy stores and admire all the beautiful clothes and shoes. I think how one day I'll be wearing clothing like that- though there will be no tiny dog peeking from my carrier.
As we leave the mall and head for the airport I think back about our trip.
I will always miss the pikes place and watching the men sing as they throw customer's their fish. The crazy lines of those wanting to drink at the first Starbucks. I remember just how much the city has changed though. There is no more King Dome where I watched my first Mariner's game. There are no more rides beneath the space needle and there is now a rock museum.
As the plane pulls away I look down over the city and know that Seattle will always have a place in heart. I take a deep breath and rest my head against the back of the seat as we fly back to Florida.
At first I was a little leery about doing a class blog as I have had negatives experiences with doing so in the past, but I actually really enjoyed doing this blog. I liked how each week turned into something different as we had to incorporate someone else’s work into our own. I made things very interesting as even the writer of the blog didn’t know what was going to be next in their own work. In interaction with everyone else’s blogs I thought it was pretty neat to read the different approaches that everyone else took in writing their blog and how in just using other people’s work certain blogs ended up on a similar topic- for instance with the goats showing up everywhere. I thought it was cool to see how something could circulate like that and in knowing that had our blog lasted a couple weeks more I would have been adding a goat into one of my blogs. Thank goodness that didn’t happen!
ReplyDeleteI was really happy with how my blog turned out overall. With not knowing how my following week’s blog would go I was glad that I was able to incorporate each blog with different student’s blogs. Although their blogs were so different than mine there were still parts that I could take and add to mine to make it work. I was happy with my city choice as Seattle actually is my home and when I read over the classmate’s blog that had to do with home and his address being Portland, I could not have gotten it any better as Portland is the city I was born in. I think this is actually a blog that I would consider continuing even though our class is over.
The network of blogs relates perfectly with texts and intertextuality as everything is a text, especially blogs as they’re written text which is the most well-known type of text for people. As for intertextuality, since a few of the weeks we had to incorporate other texts into ours, we had texts within texts, which is what intertexuality is, so that was an easy one to do. In looking over everyone’s blog and seeing the totally different styles, it really showed how diverse of a class I was in. When it came to connecting certain blogs with mine, it was a struggle at first as I was not sure how to relate such a different blog to mine. Like the one on fashion, while I like fashion, it was so different than mine and took some time to think of how to connect it. Or the blog that had the bong hit name, I literally stared blankly at the blog for ten minutes in trying to think of how to relate with that as it was different from my opinions or how my blog was done, but with time I was able to connect with every blog and the difficulty turned into a fun challenge.
I had decided to incorporate Benjamin into my blog first as I felt that it was the easiest to relate to my blog. As Benjamin’s article related well with Nadja, I felt that it connected well with mine with the take on art as Seattle, in my opinion is a very art filled city. I wanted to keep my blog surrounded around Seattle and that area and I felt that connecting with Benjamin just came easy for the blog.
Overall these blog assignments have been a real pleasure and I have enjoyed doing a weekly writing assignment that is off from the original ones. With the blog assignments I was able to choose the direction I wanted to go. Although we had to incorporate other student’s blogs, we still did not have a set prompt and with the ability to write about whatever we wanted and take things in whatever direction we chose to was a nice change. It was an assignment that I enjoyed and was a type of homework that was not dreaded. It was something I enjoyed doing each week and I think it is a great work assignment for students in any class.
